What Are Reasonable Expectations For James Wiseman?
After the Klay Thompson news surfaced, there were a lot of questions of whether or not this would change the Warriors’ plans on draft night, but it did not as they decided to draft big man James Wiseman No. 2 overall. Wiseman will not only fill a hole the Warriors have had at center for years now, but is a player who has star potential.
While he is not much of a scoring option outside of the paint, Wiseman has the mechanics to develop an outside game. He does most of his dirty work in the paint and is a tough finisher who can convert second and third chance opportunities as well. James Wiseman is extremely dangerous in transition as he runs the court really well for a 7’1” center and is hard to slow down when running in the open court.
The center position is something the Warriors have not been able to get production from over the years and it seems like they have had a new starting center every season. Kevon Looney is a great player, but he is a much better big man option off the bench for Golden State.
Marquese Chriss had a solid season with the Warriors last year, but there are a lot of question marks about his durability and aggressiveness. Both Looney and Chriss will have roles with the Warriors this season, but James Wiseman is the man moving forward and will likely take over the starting center position at some point this upcoming season.
Drawing comparisons to Chris Bosh, Wiseman is a guy who is too talented to not be in the game for the Warriors and with them needing all the help they can get this year, expect to see James Wiseman be in the conversation for Rookie of the Year all year long.
