Why The Trade Benefits The Lakers
The Lakers had LeBron James operate as the point guard within the offense for much of the season. That worked out well considering he led the league in assists, but they would benefit from having a true point on the roster. That is why they went out to get Dennis Schroder in the offseason.
Rajon Rondo signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Hawks. He was going to be the Lakers’ bench piece for depth, but now they are left with needing one.
Carsen Edwards still has to make his mark in the league, but could benefit under one of the best players to ever do it and turn into a capable contributor. He has a high ceiling and can knock down a shot when open.
This would be a move for the Lakers to add depth and an intriguing prospect to their roster. With their current situation at point guard, it would benefit them to have as many options available as possible.
LeBron James and company are the favorites to win another NBA Finals this season and adding a young piece like Edwards could make a lot of sense.
