Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Pelicans
On the other side of the trade, New Orleans would be looking to contend more seriously as well. Trading JJ Redick and Eric Bledsoe would not hurt them that bad. Acquiring Kyle Lowry could be the missing piece to their current puzzle.
If this trade was made, the Pelicans would trot out a starting lineup of Lonzo Ball, Lowry, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, and Steven Adams. That starting five would be very difficult to beat.
Depending on the development of Williamson, the Pelicans could actually make some noise in the West. Come playoff time, they would have a proven leader in Lowry. He would also help fill the three-point shooting void that trading Redick would leave.
Lowry loves the city of Toronto and would not choose to be traded. However, if he was dealt to New Orleans, he would become a fan favorite immediately. The style of play he brings to the court and the pure passion he has for the game is infectious.
New Orleans may choose to keep their roster as is and head into the season to see what they really have. But, if they decide that they want to bring in a veteran, Lowry might be the perfect target.
Don’t be surprised if the Pelicans are active on the trade market throughout the season. David Griffin is looking to put an NBA Finals together and trading for Lowry could help them make that goal a reality.
