Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Raptors
As previously mentioned, this trade would not be one that takes the Raptors out of the running in the Eastern Conference. In fact, depending on the way the new players fit, it could help them compete more seriously.
Kyle Lowry is a top-notch point guard and no one will argue against that. However, this trade would bring back another quality point guard in Eric Bledsoe and one of the NBA’s best three-point shooters in JJ Redick. It would also give the Raptors another first-round pick to work with moving forward that could be used in a trade or used to take another young player.
Last season with the Milwaukee Bucks, Bledsoe ended up averaging 14.9 points per game to go along with 5.4 assists and 4.6 rebounds. Redick, on the other hand, averaged 15.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the three-point line.
Both players could come in and play massive roles for the Raptors. They are both capable of scoring the ball and the shooting that Redick brings to the court would pair nicely in the back-court with Fred VanVleet. Even though trading Lowry would be a tough decision for the Raptors to make, VanVleet is more than ready to become the clear-cut point guard for the franchise.
This trade could make a lot of sense for the Raptors. It was clear last season that the current makeup of the roster was not good enough to win another championship. Moving Lowry for two key pieces might help take them further.
Lowry may not be available, but if this trade package is available, the Raptors should strongly consider making it happen.
