Andre Drummond Will Sign Long-Term Deal

At the trade deadline last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded away Brandon Knight, John Henson, and a second-round pick for Andre Drummond. Why? Because they basically got the former All-Star for free from the Detroit Pistons.

While he will be a hot-name on the trade market throughout the season, especially if he produces solid numbers with the Cavs this year, Drummond may ultimately elect to re-sign with the Cavaliers given the fact that he can get a large guaranteed deal from them. The Cavaliers have been notorious for giving out bad contracts, over-valued over the years and Drummond could look to work out a long-term agreement or a sign-and-trade next offseason.

Drummond, after opting into his player-option this offseason for the 2020-21 NBA season, told media members that his plan was to always come back to Cleveland and that he never gave it any other thought. Maybe this was because by returning to Cleveland, he guaranteed himself $28.75M for the 2020-21 season, but who knows what Drummond’s true intentions are.

The Cavaliers could very well move on from Drummond if they get a good offer for him in the middle of the season, but chances are they will likely give him a long-term contract that will be hard for him to say no to. He could be the veteran player this Cavaliers look to pair with their young core they hope to build through the years, the question that remains is if Andre Drummond truly wants to remain with this Cavs organization.
