Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Rockets
On the surface, this trade may not seem worth it for the Rockets. They gave up quite a bit of value to get Russell Westbrook and this may not be the return they want. However, when you look closer at it, this deal could make a ton of sense.
Kevin Love isn’t the All-Star forward that he once was, but he still has value. Last season with the Cavaliers, Love ended up averaging 17.6 points per game to go along with 9.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists. He shot 45 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 37.4 percent from the three-point line.
The main draw of this trade is the addition of Collin Sexton. He is just 21 years old and still has a ton of room to grow. Sexton ended up averaging 20.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game to go along with shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and 38 percent from the three-point line.
Sexton would be the kind of piece that the Rockets could build around. If they do lose both Westbrook and Harden, Houston will need new talents in the back-court.
Dante Exum is a throw-in in this trade. He did not live up to the hype when he came into the league and isn’t going to be an important piece no matter where he is.
This trade may not be perfect, but there are some intriguing reasons that the Rockets should consider pulling the trigger.
