Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Cavaliers
The reason for the Cavaliers to pull the trigger on this trade is obvious. They need a franchise star to build around and Russell Westbrook would be that guy.
Westbrook has been a dominant offensive weapon throughout his entire career. That was the case once again last season with the Rockets. Even though he is 31 years old right now, this move would be well worth it.
Cleveland would have Westbrook as the face of their franchise with quite a few solid supporting pieces around him. Andre Drummond is still in town, Darius Garland would still be the team’s starting point guard, and they have both Isaac Okoro, Cedi Osman, and Kevin Porter Jr. still around as well.
No, this trade would not make the Cavaliers an NBA Finals contender, but it would make them much better. Westbrook may even be able to recruit other stars to Cleveland.
This trade would bring excitement back to the Cavaliers. Since LeBron James left, it has been obvious that Cleveland is not a contender. Westbrook being acquired would turn that around quickly.
