Why This Trade Makes Sense For The Heat
Quite simply, the Heat need to focus on adding as much talent around Jimmy Butler as they can. Pat Riley may look to trade for a superstar, but the more likely option is that they wait for free agency next offseason.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been mentioned as a legitimate target for the Heat. Even Victor Oladipo has been talked about as a potential addition for Miami.
Acquiring Schroder from the Thunder would not compromise that goal. Schroder has one year left on his deal. He would be a one-year piece to help the Heat compete in 2020-21 and the franchise could move on from him next offseason should they choose to do so.
Goran Dragic is also hitting the free agency market this offseason. There is a chance that the Heat could lose him to another team. If that happened, Schroder could step in immediately as the starting point guard for Miami.
Schroder is a very underrated player and he showed that in 2019-20. A move to the Heat would help him unlock that potential even more and would be a very nice addition for a Miami team that hopes to compete for an NBA Finals appearance once again.
