The Hypothetical Trade

Heat Receive: Dennis Schroder

Thunder Receive: Kelly Olynyk, No. 20 Pick, 2022 2nd Round Pick (via PHI or DEN—less favorable)

On the outside looking in, no one would call this trade a major game-changer for either side. However, both teams would be getting something they need.

While the Heat moving on from Olynyk would get rid of an important bench piece in the front-court, acquiring Schroder would give them a much more dynamic scorer in the back-court. Oklahoma City’s reasoning for this move is obviously the picks.

After trading both Paul George and Russell Westbrook for a large amount of draft capital, the same could be done this offseason. Sam Presti does an excellent job in the NBA Draft and this would give him more to work with.

Let’s look closer at why both teams should strongly consider pulling the trigger on this trade.
