Why the Miami Heat Should Do It
Entering the offseason, Goran Dragic is set to become a free agent. It’s likely he will return, but it’s worth taking into consideration that he’s already 34-years-old. Acquiring a younger option at the point guard position for a long-term solution could be an intriguing option for the Miami Heat.
A run to the NBA Finals doesn’t happen by accident. However, losing the series doesn’t either. The Heat will need to come back next season with more firepower and Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox is a trade target to help get it done.
By pairing Fox with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, the Heat would thrive defensively and with dribble penetration and playmaking. They would have the necessary foundational talent to challenge just about any team. Meanwhile, Tyler Herro remaining with Miami only helps.
A contract extension has yet to take place between Fox and the Kings. If the Heat were to trade for him, they’d be able to wait until next offseason to get something done. That would enable some flexibility to retain Fox while adding talent in a loaded free agency class.
