5. The Warriors beat the Denver Nuggets in game 6 at Oracle in the 2013 playoffs
Going into the 2013 playoffs, the Warriors were seen as the underdogs as a sixth seed in their first round series against the third seed, Denver Nuggets.
The Warriors were close to stealing homecourt advantage away from Denver in game 1, but ultimately lost and lost forward David Lee to injury. They came out on fire and beat the Nuggets in game 2, to gain some momentum heading back to Oracle. In game 3, Curry led his team to a momentum shifting victory with one more game still needed to be played at Oracle Arena. Then, in game 4, Curry introduced himself to the basketball world, scoring 22 points alone in the third quarter, then a career-high. With an opportunity to close the game out in Denver, the Warriors could not keep pace with the Nuggets, who forced a game 6 back in Oakland.
Playing in front of a raucous crowd at Oracle for the Golden State Warriors was not new, but this time in game 6, it felt different because the stakes were higher. The Warriors could potentially win their first playoff series since 2007 when they upset the Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors went back and forth until the home team built a sizable lead, until Denver rallied to nearly force a game 7. The Warriors were led by Curry, who had 22 points and center Andrew Bogut, who had 14 points and 21 rebounds for the home team. Reserve point guard, Jarrett Jack had 13 points off the bench. The Nuggets were led by Andre Iguodala who had 24 points and nine rebounds, and Ty Lawson had 17.
It was one of the best feelings for the team and their fans, who had not tasted playoff success since 2007.
