Former NBA Lottery Pick Facing Shocking Legal Accusations

Ben McLemore, Trail Blazers, NBA

With the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Ben McLemore out of Kansas. McLemore was considered one of the safer prospects in that year’s draft class with the tools to develop into an exceptional 3-and-D player in the league.

Alas, things didn’t pan out as well as evaluators believed they would. McLemore was never able to take his game to that next level as most of the top of the 2013 NBA Draft all fell short of expectations for several reasons.

A few of the players are still on NBA rosters today, but McLemore has not played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season with the Portland Trail Blazers. Most recently he was playing with Rio Breogan of the Spanish ACB, but his basketball career is being put on hold.

McLemore made headlines this week as he was reportedly arrested for some gruesome allegations. He is facing allegations of first-degree rape and other sex crimes, as shared by Joey Mistretta of Clutch Points, via Aimee Green and Noelle Crombie of oregonlive.com

“An indictment that was unsealed after the hearing accuses McLemore, who played one season with the Blazers in 2021-22 and is no longer with the NBA, of first-degree rape, first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse. If convicted, he could face a minimum of eight years and four months in prison.”

The incident stems from 2021, likely when McLemore was on the Trail Blazers’ roster. He was in Clackamas County Circuit Court on Wednesday when the indictment was unsealed.

It was not clear if McLemore was looking to get back into the NBA at some point. But these allegations will likely end whatever comeback he was planning as teams will not want that kind of attention being brought upon them.

This could also be the end of his professional basketball career depending on how things play out in court. These are serious allegations against McLemore and if found guilty, he is going to be in prison for a good amount of time.
