Heat Land Hawks’ Dejounte Murray In Bold Trade Proposal

Dejounte Murray, Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

There are players around the NBA who are just waiting to be traded. The rumors are swirling. At this point, it’s overwhelmingly likely that they’ll be on the move. The only question is where they’ll land next.

Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks is one of those players. The Hawks have been painfully mediocre since acquiring Murray. It seems clear that his fit alongside Trae Young is poor. It hasn’t been long since the Hawks acquired Murray, but at this point, it feels like he’ll be on the move again.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, he’s not likely to return the same package they sent him. The trade market has changed, and realistically, so has Murray’s perception around the league.

Could the Miami Heat make a compelling offer for him?

NBA Trade Proposal: Miami Heat Land Atlanta Hawks’ Dejounte Murray

Atlanta Hawks Receive: G Kyle Lowry, 2027 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2029 First-Round Pick (Top 5 Protected – MIA)

Miami Heat Receive: G Dejounte Murray

Some players can’t seem to escape trade rumors. Some teams can’t either. Certain teams seem to be in the mix for any significant player to hit the market.

The Heat are one of those teams. They were linked to Damian Lillard all summer. This team is continuously linked to Donovan Mitchell. Now, they’re being linked to Murray. How do the Heat do it?

Well, in today’s league, stars have some say in where they land. Miami is a desirable landing spot, so the Heat always have a chance to trade for a star.

With that said, they didn’t have the assets to land Lillard, and they may not have the assets to land Mitchell either. Should they give up the assets that they have for Murray?

Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal

There are questions about Murray’s defense. It’s not that he’s a poor defender – assessing his defense is complicated. Murray was one of the best defensive guards in basketball just a couple of years ago, but now, his defense has regressed.

Sure. Something tells us that he’d shape up in Miami. Players typically do. If the Heat can coax Murray’s previous defensive level out of him, they’ll be pleased to have made this deal.

After all, Murray’s offense has stayed at a high level. Meanwhile, he feels like an optimal fit alongside Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler.

Murray is shooting the ball efficiently this year, and he can run this team’s offense. He could be the star point guard that Miami has been missing.

Should the Hawks help them complete their roster?

Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal

This stings for Atlanta. They acquired Murray at the cost of three unprotected first-round picks. Now, they’re moving him for one unprotected first and a protected pick.

How can they justify that type of value loss? Well, the Hawks can’t change the market. If they get a better offer for Murray, they should take it. With that said, his fit alongside Young is poor.

The Hawks should trade Murray for as much draft capital as they can find. Taking on an expiring contract is also helpful. The Hawks’ salary sheet, at the moment, is messy.

This deal gets a lot of money off of the books.  With that cap space and some additional assets, who knows? The Hawks could get in on the next star that’s expected to be moved.
