Every team in the NBA has a timeline. Some teams want to win now, while others want to win later. With that said, some teams try to operate on two timelines.
That’s what the Golden State Warriors have been trying to do in recent years. The Warriors have mostly been in title contention for over a decade.
They’ve also tried to develop young players like James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody. With that said, the strategy has come to a head in 2023-24.
The Warriors haven’t been a winning team this year. Meanwhile, the young players seem tired of waiting for their opportunity. It has recently been reported that Kuminga would like a change of scenery.
Could the Warriors include him in a deal for Nikola Vucevic of the Chicago Bulls?
NBA Trade Proposal: Golden State Warriors Land Chicago Bulls’ Nikola Vucevic
Chicago Bulls Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, F Jonathan Kuminga, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW)
Golden State Warrior Receive: C Nikola Vucevic, G/F Alex Caruso
Trying to win is only half the battle. Sure, there are teams around the league who would prefer to lose. Still, the desire to win guarantees nothing. The NBA is highly competitive – most teams want to win.
The Bulls have been no exception. They’ve had win-now ambitions in recent years. Unfortunately, they’ve fallen short of expectations. In 2023-24, the Bulls have again been one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Nikola Vucevic, Chicago Bulls, Golden State Warriors Updates
What’s next for Chicago? Plenty of fans think they should be sellers as the trade deadline approaches. Still, it’s been alleged that the Bulls are hesitant to part with Caruso.
Should they move him at this price?
Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Yes. This isn’t complicated on Chicago’s end. Kuminga has superstar potential. The Bulls need to rebuild. They’re trading for a player with star potential.
They’re also trading for Andrew Wiggins. That’s not as simple – Wiggins is underperforming in 2023-24. He’s got a long-term, expensive contract. That shouldn’t deter the Bulls.
They can move him for more value if Wiggins turns his play around. If he doesn’t, they should be taking a long-term view – by the time they need the salary space, Wiggins’ deal will expire.

Meanwhile, they’re also picking up an unprotected first. The Warriors are aging, and neither of the players they’re receiving here are young. The Warriors could end up sending Chicago a lottery pick.
Should they take that risk?
Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
This feels like a no-brainer for the Bulls. That’s less true for the Bulls. They’ve got a losing record, and they’re giving up a player with star potential. Are we sure about this?
No. Still, the idea of inserting Vucevic into their system would have to entice the Warriors. His plus positional passing would enhance their typically elite motion system.
Meanwhile, the Warriors have never put a floor-spacing big like Vucevic alongside Curry – how will opposing teams guard that? Caruso might be the best defensive guard in the NBA.

He’ll likely usurp Klay Thompson in the starting lineup. That should make the Warriors a much better team. The only question is whether the Warriors ought to operate on a win-now timeline.
