Some NBA teams are a bit difficult to make plans for. Their future outlook is blurry. We’re just not sure what they should do. The Brooklyn Nets are one of those teams.

The Nets are a game above .500. They’re the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference. They have a lot of draft capital. They should trade for a star to improve, right?

Well, they look a little far removed from title contention to give up assets. so, they should rebuild? Not so fast – the Nets owe their first-round picks, whether outright or via swap, to the Houston Rockets through to 2027.

What should the Nets do? We’re not sure. On the other hand, the Sacramento Kings are an easy team to assess. They’re in win-now mode.

Could they make a win-now move for the Nets’ Mikal Bridges?

It wasn’t so long ago that the Nets’ course was easy to chart. This team had pushed all of their chips in. The goal was to win. The Nets were the foremost superteam in the NBA.

What happened? More than anything, it felt like egos got in the way. Kyrie Irving and James Harden didn’t seem to get along. Either way, the team fell apart.

Did they teach us a lesson about superteams in the process? We’re not sure. Still, it does feel like the league is trending away from stockpiling talent and towards teams that feature star players who complement each other.

The Kings are a good example of that trend. Could Bridges be their missing piece?

We think so. The Kings have a dynamic offense. This team features two strong playmakers in Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox, and a cast of shooters around them.

With that said, they could stand to make some improvements to their defense. Bridges could help them do that. He’s one of the best defensive wings in the NBA.

At the same time, that’s not all that he brings to the table. Bridges would be one of the best third options in the league alongside Fox and Sabonis.

Sure, giving up on Murray so early will sting. This deal also leaves the Kings without draft capital. That’s a price worth paying for a player like Bridges.

Should the Nets give him up?

It’s not an easy question to answer. Again – the Nets aren’t easy to make plans for. Rockets fans will thank us for writing this piece. The Nets may gift them a lottery pick if they make this deal.

At the same time, the Nets aren’t going anywhere. They may make a playoff push, and they may not. They could trade the assets that they already have for a star.

That would likely get them to the first round at best. This team feels a bit stuck. How about an unconventional rebuild? The Nets can still acquire young talent, even if they’re sending quality picks to the Rockets.

Once some of that young talent starts to gel, they’ll have a surplus of assets to make a trade or two with. That sounds like a plan to us.
