A new NBA trade proposal would send Russell Westbrook from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Miami Heat.
Ishaan Bhattacharya of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Clippers and Heat:
Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Josh Richardson, Thomas Bryant
Miami Heat Receive: Russell Westbrook
Westbrook’s minutes have decreased ever since the Clippers acquired James Harden from the Philadelphia 76ers. The former MVP has a different role now too, as he’s coming off the bench.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat Updates
The Heat could start Westbrook, Tyler Herro, Jimmy Butler, Kevin Love and Bam Adebayo if Miami’s front office — led by Hall of Famer Pat Riley — figured out a path to acquire Westbrook from Los Angeles. It’s worth mentioning that Westbrook and Love have a close relationship. They were teammates in college at UCLA.
A future Hall of Famer, Westbrook is averaging 12.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists this season while shooting 43.7% from the field, 27.9% from beyond the arc and 59.4% from the free-throw line.
Before Harden joined the Clippers, Westbrook was averaging 15.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.0 assists. In the 2023 playoffs against the Phoenix Suns, Westbrook averaged 23.6 points, 7.6 boards and 7.4 assists. The NBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles can still put up great numbers if he’s able to play his game.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Russell Westbrook, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat Updates
The Clippers don’t really need Westbrook on the roster now that they have Harden. It will be fascinating to see if Los Angeles looks to trade Westbrook before the February 2024 trade deadline. Westbrook can be traded after January 15, 2024.
