One NBA writer is proposing that the Brooklyn Nets acquire Jaden Hardy and Richaun Holmes from the Dallas Mavericks in a realistic deal.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Nets and Mavericks:
Dallas Mavericks receive: Dorian Finney-Smith
Brooklyn Nets receive: Jaden Hardy, Richaun Holmes and 2026 first-round pick (top-five protected)
Hardy is averaging 8.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists for the Mavericks this season while shooting 35.5% from the field, 35.3% from beyond the arc and 85.7% from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, Holmes hasn’t appeared in a game yet.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Jaden Hardy, Richaun Holmes, Dallas Mavericks, Brooklyn Nets Updates
The Nets acquired Finney-Smith from the Mavericks last season in the Kyrie Irving trade. It would certainly be strange to see Brooklyn trade Finney-Smith back to Dallas.
However, Buckley could see the Nets benefiting from it.
“If the Nets move on from Finney-Smith, the goal would be getting assets to either keep and develop down the line or maybe deal away sooner if this core plays well enough to justify such an acceleration,” Buckley wrote in his NBA trade column. “They’d get two good ones in this swap with a lightly protected first and Hardy, a 21-year-old who’s already a career supplier of 21.4 points per 36 minutes on 43.6/40.7/82.7 shooting.”
The Nets have started the season 3-4, while the Mavericks are 6-1.
“There would be some overlap between Hardy and Cam Thomas—two scoring guards without a lot of size—but Brooklyn’s need for self-sufficient scorers is great enough to at least see if they can coexist,” Buckley wrote. “The Nets have been just a 28th percentile offense on isolation plays, so they could use more off-the-dribble zip. Holmes would merely make the money work, but he could be useful as an emergency backup big.”

Hardy has career NBA averages of 8.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists, while Holmes has career averages of 8.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.0 assists.
