One NBA writer is proposing that the Memphis Grizzlies acquire Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks in a blockbuster deal. Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Grizzlies and Hawks:
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: C Clint Capela
Atlanta Hawks: PF/C Brandon Clarke, PF Jake LaRavia, 2024 first-round pick (lottery-protected)
The Grizzlies have started the season 0-4. They are getting killed on the boards since Steven Adams is out for the season. Swartz believes Memphis needs to trade for Capela and start the big man alongside Jaren Jackson Jr.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Clint Capela, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies Updates
“Capela, 29, is averaging a double-double for the seventh straight year with 10.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game thus far this season,” Swartz wrote in his NBA trade column. “He’s a strong rebounder who can protect the rim much like Adams, with both players primarily feeding off pick-and-roll-heavy point guards who find them cutting to the basket.”
Capela is making $20.6 million this season. The veteran will make $22.3 million in 2024-25 and become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025. Capela signed a two-year, $45.4 million extension with the Hawks in September 2021.
Capela, who began his career with the Houston Rockets, has career averages of 12.4 points and 10.7 rebounds with the Rockets and Hawks. Atlanta has started this season 2-2 and multiple reports have stated that the front office wants to see Onyeka Okongwu get more minutes.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Clint Capela, Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies Updates
The Grizzlies could start Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane, Ziaire Williams, Jackson Jr. and Capela if Memphis’ front office figured out a way to acquire Capela from Atlanta. Once superstar point guard Ja Morant returns from his 25-game suspension, the Grizzlies could start Morant, Smart, Bane, Jackson Jr. and Capela.
