One NBA writer is proposing that the Miami Heat acquire Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors in a blockbuster trade.
Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report is proposing that the Heat trade Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Nikola Jovic, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2030 first-round pick and a 2024 first-round swap to the Raptors for Siakam.
“Toronto’s haul here is significant, particularly in light of Siakam’s looming 2024 free agency,” Hughes wrote. “With no guarantee of re-signing him at all, and the uncomfortable alternative possibility of handing him a max contract to retain his services, this is an objectively good result.
“Miami would assume all of the risk here, but one would expect Pat Riley and Co. have an understanding of what it’ll take to keep Siakam next summer. If Miami isn’t sure it will be able to keep Siakam or is uncomfortable with the likely terms of his next deal, this trade won’t (and shouldn’t) ever get off the ground.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Pascal Siakam, Miami Heat & Toronto Raptors Updates
Siakam signed a four-year, $136 million rookie contract extension with the Raptors in October 2019. He will make $37.9 million next season and become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2024. The Raptors are hesitant to offer Siakam a max contract extension, so they could move him despite multiple reports stating the NBA champion wants to stay in Toronto.
Siakam averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists last season while shooting 48.0% from the field, 32.4% from beyond the arc and 77.4% from the free-throw line. If the Heat can’t get Portland Trail Blazers superstar point guard Damian Lillard, pivoting to Siakam wouldn’t be too bad. A Big 3 of Siakam, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo could do some serious damage.

Siakam has career averages of 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He won the 2019 championship and the 2018-19 Most Improved Player of the Year Award. It will be interesting to see where the Douala native is playing next season.
