There has been a lot of speculation about how the Boston Celtics feel about Jaylen Brown long-term. He was involved in their trade talks when they attempted to acquire Kevin Durant and many people were under the belief that the Celtics were okay if Brown departed.

Well, any doubts that the Celtics had in Brown have been pushed to the side as the two sides agreed to a massive contract extension. It is the largest deal in NBA history as the Celtics offered Brown the supermax of five years and $304 million, which he accepted.

It is a jaw-dropping number that Brown was offered by the Celtics and analysts will debate for months about whether or not he is worth such a large sum of money. Given the disappearing act he did at times during the postseason, and his inability to dribble with his left hand, it is shocking to see.

But, the Celtics came to the conclusion that it was better for the long-term health of their franchise to work out this deal with Brown than potentially watch him leave as a free agent in 2024.

In the final year of the extension, Brown is going to earn $69 million. That is an eye-opening number on its own. But, when put into context, it becomes even more shocking.

As shared by Bleacher Report, the $69 million Brown will be making in the final year of the extension is more than the entire Celtics starting lineup of their most recent NBA Championship team was making combined. Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins were making $62 million together.

Nothing short of helping the Celtics win multiple championships and continuing to rack up personal accolades will make this contract worthwhile. Brown, while still an ascending player as he is set to turn 27 in October, has arguably the biggest albatross of a contract in the NBA. He will be turning 33 in the final year of the extension when he is set to earn $69 million.
