Since Lonzo Ball is expected to miss the entire 2023-24 season, one NBA writer believes the Chicago Bulls should trade for Tyus Jones, who got traded by the Memphis Grizzlies to the Washington Wizards earlier this summer. Ball underwent a cartilage transplant in his left knee in March. The UCLA product missed the entire 2022-23 season.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report is proposing that the Bulls trade Patrick Williams, Dalen Terry and a 2026 second-round pick to the Wizards for Jones and Corey Kispert.

“Jones averaged 16.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.8 steals in his 22 starts with the Grizzlies last season, all while putting up efficient 50.0/41.5/77.8 percent shooting splits,” Swartz wrote. “Kispert was one of the NBA’s best three-point shooters (42.4 percent, 2.2 makes per game), bringing some much-needed outside shooting to a Bulls team that ranked dead last in made threes per night (10.4).

“A starting lineup with Jones, Zach LaVine, Kispert, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vučević could make some noise in the East, especially with Alex Caruso, Andre Drummond, Torrey Craig, Coby White and Carter off the bench.”

Jones appeared in 80 games for the Grizzlies last season. He averaged 10.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists while shooting 43.8% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 80.0% from the free-throw line. The 27-year-old is one of the best floor generals in the NBA, as he had 417 assists and only 74 turnovers in 2023-24.

Jones has career averages of 6.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Grizzlies. He’s the perfect pass-first point guard the Bulls need for All-Stars Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vuvevic.

Chicago should explore a Jones trade if the team wants to get back to the playoffs next season. The Bulls went only 40-42 last season. They missed the playoffs after making the postseason in 2022 for the first time since 2017.
