Alperen Sengun wants to become a more reliable 3-point threat for the Houston Rockets next NBA season. The 20-year-old, who is one of the most skilled players in the league, is looking to improve defensively as well.
Sengun appeared in 75 games for the Rockets last season. He averaged 14.8 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 55.3% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 71.5% from the free-throw line. The Giresun native recorded 29 double-doubles and two triple-doubles.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Alperen Sengun & Houston Rockets Updates
Sengun attempted 117 3s in his rookie season and 57 last season. He’s a career 27.6% shooter from deep. If Sengun is able to become a more consistent shooter from distance, he could become an All-Star very soon.
The Rockets entered free agency with the most cap space. They signed Dillon Brooks, Fred VanVleet, Jeff Green, Jock Landale and Aaron Holiday. Ime Udoka is the new head coach in Houston, replacing Stephen Silas. The Rockets won only 22 games last season, but the losing netted them the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, enabling the franchise to select Amen Thompson.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Alperen Sengun & Houston Rockets Updates
Houston is building around Sengun, Thompson, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr., Kevin Porter Jr. and Jae’Sean Tate. It’s going to be very interesting to see how many games the Rockets win next season. Adding veterans such as Brooks, VanVleet and Green will certainly help Houston’s young core understand what it takes to win at the highest level.
“I think just coming in and setting the tone and just bringing a professional approach from day one, I think it’s going to be a whole total new feel with what they’ve had between myself and Ime and just some of the other veterans that we’ve added,” VanVleet said. “The young guys have a lot of talent, and we just got to kind of mesh it and mold it the best we can to be able to build a winner.”
