Chicago Bulls receive: G Dejounte Murray, F De’Andre Hunter, F/C Onyeka Onkongwu
Atlanta Hawks receive: G/F Zach LaVine
Before getting into the details, this would need to be a midseason trade since Dejounte Murray recently signed a long-term contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks. The earliest he can be traded is mid-January.
Obviously, you cannot just throw two star guards together and expect them to perform as well as they can. They’ve got to make some sense together in terms of basketball fit.
In most cases, that means that there will be one on-ball player and one off-ball player. There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to that. There is a benefit to having both of your guards be able to make plays.
It would be ideal if at least one of them could shoot. As a rule of thumb, the best backcourts feature at least one player who is comfortable without the ball. There is no better proof than the Atlanta Hawks if you need it.
NBA TRADES, NEWS & RUMORS: Zach LaVine, Atlanta Hawks & Chicago Bulls Updates
Trae Young is a wizard with the ball. Murray doesn’t do much without it. Young is solid off-ball, but the Hawks don’t want to take it out of his hands. For that reason, this duo struggled mightily in 2022-23.
Would the Hawks do better with LaVine?
