How Trade Impacts Boston Celtics

With the NBA’s new salary cap rules going into place soon, teams are going to have to adjust how they spend. With a one-year grace period, a team such as the Boston Celtics should look to take advantage before the new penalties kick in.

So, they go all-in on acquiring Kristaps Porzinigs, who put together arguably the best season of his career during the 2022-23 campaign. He would be an excellent third option behind Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and only now entering his prime, could be a long-term answer as well.

The Celtics’ offense at times became overly reliant on Tatum and Brown but Porzinigs would provide the team with a more than capable third option to take pressure off of them. His rim protection would also play well alongside Al Horford in the lineup.

Trading away Malcolm Brogdon will hurt some of the team’s depth, but he doesn’t have the upside that Porzingis brings as a two-way player. Brogdon’s injuries are tough to overcome as well as they miss chunks of the season on a yearly basis.

This would be an all-in move for Boston after parting ways with a 2025 first-rounder. However, they would be in a position to be the best team in the Eastern Conference with Tatum, Brown and Porzinigs leading the way.
