Ironically, the Dallas Mavericks may have made the same mistake this season.
After all, this team traded assets for Kyrie Irving at this year’s deadline. He could leave the Mavericks hanging, too. If he chooses a new team, the Mavericks may be in trouble.
Let’s assume that he doesn’t. In that event, the Mavericks will have one of the most talented duos in the NBA in Irving and Luka Doncic.
With that said, they’ll still be without a defensive anchor. Poeltl could be one.

This is a great defensive big who can protect the rim and survive in space. Poeltl also provides some solid passing and pick-and-roll finishing on the offensive end.
Of course, there’s another team in Texas who could use a player like that.
