Let’s talk about him as a player. Hartenstein is not a superstar. This is not a player who will carry an NBA offense for even a short stretch of a game. That’s fine. 

After all, that’s what Doncic and Irving are there for. Meanwhile, Hartenstein is a solid defender who protects the rim.

Hartenstein is also a deceptively good passer for a big man. This is a solid NBA player. 

With the Mavericks needing a short-roll playmaking option to pair with Doncic, it would be wise to add a player with Hartenstein’s skill-set.
