If you want an example of how trade value fluctuates in the NBA, look no further than Ben Simmons of the Brooklyn Nets.
At one time, this was a borderline top-10 player. It would have been difficult to convince the Philadelphia 76ers to part with him.
One may have had to send out a lot of draft capital to acquire him.
Eventually, some flaws in Simmons’ game became apparent. Still, the Sixers were able to flip Simmons for James Harden. Given his current value, that was a coup in retrospect.
That’s not to say that the Nets couldn’t flip Simmons for a star. They could – but they’d have to attach a lot of sweeteners to get a deal done. Luckily, the Nets have a lot of sweeteners.
Do they have enough to flip Simmons for Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards?
