Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

The Nets are in an interesting spot. They have substantial draft capital, yet they don’t control their own draft. 

The Houston Rockets do. Through to 2027, the Rockets own every Nets’ pick, whether outright or via swap. With that in mind, the Nets have no incentive to lose. 

As constructed, they appear likely to find themselves, like the Wizards, stuck in the middle. This is a deep team full of talented role players, but they don’t have an offensive focal point.

Why not get one? Beal and Mikal Bridges would make for a fairly dynamic offensive duo. Meanwhile, this deal allows the Nets to keep all of those key role players. 

Even if they’re taking a loss on Simmons, that feels like a deal worth making.
