When an NBA front office is building a team, they have a number of different approaches they can take.
Some prefer to build the team organically. They identify their core pieces and put well-fitting pieces around them.
Others are focused on aggregating talent. Do they already have an intriguing young big man? Cool. They’ll still add another one. In time, they’ll simply choose the one they prefer.
That seems to be the approach of the Detroit Pistons. This team saw Jalen Duren performing well as a rookie, and traded for James Wiseman anyway.
Factor in Marvin Bagley III, and Isaiah Stewart might be out of the picture.
