The Minnesota Timberwolves reached a significant milestone during Wednesday’s NBA action by recording their 50th win of the season, defeating the Detroit Pistons 106-91.
Despite a slow start and Anthony Edwards scoring just nine points, contributions from Naz Reid, Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert, and Kyle Anderson propelled the Timberwolves into a tie for second place in the Western Conference standings.
“Why not the first seed? And regardless of whether we do or not, we know the real season starts in mid-April,” Gobert stated, highlighting the team’s aspirations for a top seed in the playoffs.
This victory marks only the fifth time in the Timberwolves’ 35-season history that the team has reached the 50-win mark, tying for the franchise’s third-highest total with ten games remaining.
“It means a lot. I’ve been here four years now and ain’t got close to 50 wins,” McDaniels reflected on the achievement. “It’s a little milestone, but we’ve still got to keep winning.”

The Pistons, led by Cade Cunningham’s 32 points, faced their eighth consecutive loss, deepening their position at the bottom of the league standings.
“We’re going to keep stacking ’em up, because there’s a lot to play for yet,” coach Chris Finch commented, emphasizing the importance of each win as the playoffs approach.
Minnesota’s defense, spearheaded by Gobert, was once again a crucial factor in the victory, improving their record to 40-4 when holding opponents to less than 110 points.
“He’s doing a great job. He’s setting the standard for everybody else,” Anderson praised Gobert’s defensive impact.

The Pistons, hindered by injuries and deploying their 34th different starting lineup of the season, struggled to match the Timberwolves’ intensity in the second half.
“There were some tough shots, maybe some times when we didn’t move the ball enough before we got into shots, especially when they were on their run,” Cunningham noted, pointing out areas for improvement.
