There are several ways to rebuild an NBA team. Everyone’s got their preferred method. 

Some like a full teardown. If a contender is falling short of expectations, they’d prefer for them to trade their best players for draft picks. After that, they’ll tank for a few years, and move on. 

Some prefer a more moderate approach. Yes, any rebuilding team will pick in the lottery, but they don’t need to tank. If they start to win some games, that’s a good thing. 

Typically, that’s the approach the Indiana Pacers have taken. We’ve seldom seen this organization tank.

Instead, they’re more inclined to trade for young players who’ve got some kind of track record.
