Let’s be clear: the Mavericks won’t accept any package for Doncic unless he requests a trade.
If he does, the type of package they’ll accept will depend on their philosophy. If they want to stay relevant, this deal may help them do so.
After all, it’s got them landing a potential All-NBA player in Markkanen. He emerged as a true star this year. Markkanen could probably carry Dallas into respectability next season.
Of course, he’s not Doncic. That’s why the Mavs are receiving five first-round picks here. At the same time, either team could decline this deal.
