Dallas Mavericks Receive: F/C Kelly Olynyk, G Collin Sexton, G/F Talen Horton-Tucker, 2023 First-Round Pick (UTA), 2025 First-Round PIck (CLE via UTA), 2026 First-Round Pick (MIN or CLE via UTA), 2027 First-Round Pick (Top 4 Protected – LAL via UTA), 2028 First-Round Pick (UTA), 2029 First-Round Pick (CLE via UTA), 2030 First-Round Pick (UTA)
Utah Jazz Receive: G/F Luka Doncic
For Dallas, this is simple. They’re passing on Markkanen in exchange for two more unprotected first-round picks.
Perhaps that’s a wise decision. Markkanen is extremely talented, but he’s unlikely to carry an NBA team to a title. The Mavericks may prefer to really start their rebuild from the ground up.
By contrast, Markkanen should shine as a second offensive option. Put some defensive specialists around him and Doncic, and the Jazz could have a recipe for a title.
We know this is far-fetched. The Mavericks are surely not shopping Doncic. At the same time, in this modern NBA, relationships between players and teams don’t last like they used to.
