Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

If Simmons does have anything left in the tank, he’s not likely to discover it in Brooklyn. This obviously isn’t working. Simmons literally fell out of this team’s rotation.

Having a player collecting his contract to spectate is unacceptable. With that in mind, it should be worth the cost of a lottery protected first to move on from Simmons for the Nets.

Of course, considering that they’re getting actual rotation players back, that’s especially true. 

The Nets could use guard depth. From that perspective, Graham may be the most valuable piece they’re getting here. He could be a helpful stopgap option as the team re-tools.

Still, any competitive team can use a player like McDermott. He’s made a pretty simple career out of being a sharpshooter. He could get moved again at next year’s trade deadline.
