It’s been a strange NBA career for Ben Simmons of the Brooklyn Nets. This is a player who was on a superstar trajectory. Simmons was the number one pick in the NBA draft.
For the first few years of his career, it looked like he’d justify that selection. Now, he’s seen as having the worst contract in the NBA.
Simmons fell out of the Nets’ rotation entirely this season. How did this happen? There are multiple explanations. He has had injury troubles. He can’t shoot. Some would say that psychological factors play into his sudden decline as well.
Going forward, the Nets are going to say that optimism exists for what Simmons can do next season after he undergoes a full offseason program and training camp. However, it’s reached a point where other teams need to see it to believe it.
If San Antonio Spurs used the ideal approach, they likely would view themselves as being a team in the early stages of a rebuild with the need to fill their salary cap spending obligations with bad contracts while being compensated for doing so.
Could Simmons end up on the Spurs this summer?
