Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
In simple terms, the twin towers in Minnesota aren’t working because neither is a versatile defender. With that in mind, the Wolves would be giving McDaniels the full-time starting job at the 4 here. He’s an extremely versatile defender. He and Rudy Gobert should be able to carry this team to an elite defense.
Meanwhile, Herro and Anthony Edwards should be the backbone of a strong offense. The Wolves are losing the best player in this trade, but they may have a more complete roster for making it.
After all, they’ll be able to play fast. That’s been problematic with their twin towers model so far. Even if it is coming back into fashion around the league.
Again, how can an offense be elite in 2023 if Gobert is fumbling drop-off passes and incapable of spacing the floor or punishing a mismatch? How can a defense be elite without Towns being a rim protector or switch defender? The ceiling gets lowered on both ends.
