For a long time, NBA teams opted for size over anything else. The twin towers model was the most popular in the league. Teams looked to double down on size.
Now, they tend to double down on versatility. With that said, there are plenty of ways to build an NBA team. The Minnesota Timberwolves obviously thought so last summer.
They acquired Rudy Gobert to play alongside Karl-Anthony Towns. The Wolves wanted to bring the twin towers back. So far, it doesn’t look like it’s working.
The Timberwolves are down 3-0 against the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs. It seems likely that they’ll lose this series. Nikola Jokic has had no issue dominating the series despite Minnesota having both of these big men, too.
Right now, the Timberwolves appear stuck. One team that also seems to be facing a similar reality is the Miami Heat. With both sides needing to undergo a major shift, could there be a trade worth doing for both sides?
If they do, could the Timberwolves send Karl-Anthony Towns to the Heat?
