Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Tyler Herro, G/F Duncan Robinson, 2027 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2030 First-Round Pick (Swap – MIA)
Miami Heat Receive: F/C Karl-Anthony Towns
With that said, perhaps the twin towers are coming back. A look around the NBA tells us that plenty of teams are running two big men. Still, it looks different than it used to. Big, versatile 4s are becoming fashionable.
The Cleveland Cavaliers play Evan Mobley alongside Jarrett Allen. The Memphis Grizzlies play Jaren Jackson Jr. alongside Steven Adams. Either of these guys could play the 5, but their teams find them more impactful as a weak side shot blocker and roamer.
In a sense, this is the NBA coming full circle. Starting two bigs is optimal – as long as they aren’t both exclusively drop coverage defenders.
The Timberwolves are stuck in a situation where they probably aren’t going to be capable of finding a scheme that gives them an elite offense or defense, with Towns sharing the court with Rudy Gobert. That’s not the makeup for a title contender.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Karl-Anthony Towns, Miami Heat & Minnesota Timberwolves Updates
The Heat need to undergo a real shake-up in the offseason if they come up short in the playoffs again. Given the team’s lack of shooting, perhaps adding a talent like Towns could help. After all, they have the switching ability of Bam Adebayo to tie the unit together.
Does that justify this pairing for the Heat?
