Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal 

Any Blazers deal involving their own first-round pick comes with a caveat: it can’t be Victor Wembanyama. 

There are 2 players in the NBA a team would trade the rights to select Wembanyama for – if that. Butler is an outstanding talent, but his name is not Antetokoumnpo. 

With that in mind, any other Blazers pick is fair game. The projected number two prospect is a point guard (Scoot Henderson), so the Blazers may even trade the rights to draft him. 

After all, staying competitive seems to be the goal here. If so, Butler was built in a lab to play with Lillard. This is an elite two-way player who can make plays for himself and others.
