With that said, expectations can be exceeded, too. Look at Robert Covington.

To say that he didn’t enter the NBA with much fanfare would be an understatement. Covington was undrafted. 

He’s far exceeded expectations. Covington has made a long career as a strong 3-and-D wing. He’s not a star player, but he’s been invaluable to a number of competitive teams. 

With that in mind, the Clippers likely expected him to be a rotation player when they signed him. It hasn’t gone that way.

Instead, Covington has been mostly squeezed out of their rotation in favor of similar players.
