Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F RJ Barrett, C Mitchell Robinson, G/F Josh Hart, 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2026 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2028 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G Trae Young, C Clint Capela
For Atlanta to like this deal, they’d have to believe In RJ Barrett.
So far, he’s been fairly disappointing as a Knick. Still, this is a recent lottery pick. At 23, Barrett still has time to improve.
Of course, that’s not all the Hawks are getting here. Flipping Capela for a younger version of himself in Mitch Robinson makes sense. Throw in three unprotected first-round picks and a quality player like Josh Hart, and they’re getting a nice return.
If the Knicks won’t offer it, it’ll be due to concerns about overlap between Young and Jalen Brunson. They shouldn’t stress that.

Brunson is a quality off-ball player: offensively, these two can co-exist.
With that said, if the Knicks are worried about the defensive limitations of a small backcourt, the Hawks may have to look elsewhere.
