Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal 

Typically, the Pacers opt to be as competitive as possible. This season has been no exception. 

At the same time, they haven’t been all that competitive. The Pacers aren’t necessarily a cakewalk for the league’s best teams, but they’re far from title contention. This team should probably be in rebuilding mode this summer. 

With that in mind, why not flip Turner for more draft assets? Sure, this deal will weaken the Pacers for next year, but it improves their long-term outlook. 

If there are reservations here, they’ll have to do with taking on Bertans’ contract. We see that as a minimal concern.

Much like the Mavericks won’t need the draft for a while, the Pacers are unlikely to need cap space. Of course, they’ll get better in time – that’s inevitable.
