Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal 

The Mavericks seem to understand the value of having floor spacing at the five. 

After all, they traded for Christian Wood last summer. Placing Luka Doncic and Irving in a five-out offense has its benefits. That said, it might look better if that big man could also play defence. 

Turner can. in fact, he’s among the best rim protectors in the NBA. Adding him should vault the Mavericks into the ranks of true contenders. 

Meanwhile, they shouldn’t miss this draft capital too badly. The Mavs would only do this deal if they lock Irving up on a long-term contract.
