Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal 

The Celtics do this deal because Brown doesn’t want to be with them. This one is relatively simple. 

He’s also a free agent after this season. The Celtics do not appear likely to retain him. Getting some value for him now before he leaves the team in free agency seems like a sensible decision. 

This would be good value. The Celtics are losing the best player in the deal, but Beal remains a star-level contributor. This trade should keep Boston in title contention. 

Especially given that they’re also adding Johnson. This deal bolsters the Celtics’ already-impressive depth, even if they’re losing the most talented player in the deal.
