New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson underwent surgery on his left ankle Monday, his second procedure on the ankle this season, sources told NBA Analysis Network.

Robinson will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks. This timeline makes his return to the court uncertain, but he was already expected to be sidelined for the rest of the postseason.

The 24-year-old center re-injured his ankle during the first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite missing Game 4, he returned for three more games before being forced to shut it down.

This latest setback marks the second time this season Robinson has undergone surgery on his ankle, having previously undergone a procedure for a stress fracture in December. That injury kept him sidelined for 50 games, with Robinson returning to the court in March with just 11 regular-season games remaining.

In 31 regular-season games, Robinson averaged 5.6 points and 8.5 rebounds, providing a crucial presence in the paint for the Knicks. His absence has been felt, particularly on the defensive end, where his shot-blocking and rebounding abilities have been sorely missed.

The Knicks, currently locked in a 2-2 series with the Pacers, will face an uphill battle without their starting center. Game 5 is set for Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, and the team is looking to overcome a slew of injuries.

As the Knicks navigate this challenging situation, they’ll monitor Robinson’s progress closely, hoping for a speedy recovery and a potential return to the court before the season ends.
