Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal 

Of course, the same logic applies here. The Spurs don’t do this deal if their pick is top-2. 

If it isn’t, the Spurs could look to cut this rebuild off prematurely. This isn’t an organization thats accustomed to losing.

The past few seasons (and especially this one) have been an exception, not a rule. 

Some will advise that they’re too early in their process to start moving future assets. Fair. The Spurs could easily decide to focus on a longer-term plan as well.

At the same time, Brown is only 26. This is a star player in his prime. If the Spurs believe that Brown could offer more than he has in Boston with “his own team”, they ought to provide it to him.
