Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
The Heat are taking a step back here. That is not characteristic of this franchise.
Normally, the Heat prefer to make trades that they win in the short term exclusively. This is not one of those trades.
At the same time, a mediocre season isn’t necessarily characteristic of the Heat either. Meanwhile, they’ve got precious few avenues to improve in the short term.
The Heat are light on capital, and outside of Adebayo and Tyler Herro, their best players are aging.

It may be time to retool. At the same time, this deal won’t tank their present entirely. Robinson can replace much of Adebayo’s defensive impact, and Toppin fills a position of need for the Heat. Rose will also be useful.
