Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
There have been suggestions that Ball could leave the Hornets. Let’s start there.
Allegedly, he wishes they’d made more progress than they have so far. We don’t have any inside information. Still, if Ball has eyes for a new home, the Hornets may consider getting ahead of the problem.
In that event, this would be a good deal for them. They’re landing the rights to draft an elite prospect here.
In fact, depending on where the Spurs’ pick lands, this might not even be a viable deal (more on that later).

Let’s assume it is. Flipping Ball for, say, Amen Thompson and two unprotected first-round picks is a good decision if Ball is due to depart anyway.
