Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal 

For the Spurs, this is all about where their pick lands. 

If it’s a top-2 pick, they won’t consider this. Obviously, no team is trading the opportunity to draft Victor Wembanyama. He’s the most anticipated NBA prospect since LeBron James. 

If they land the second pick, they probably won’t do this either. If they want a young point guard with star potential, they’re more likely to just draft Scoot Henderson and hold onto their assets than they are to make this deal. 

With that said, if they’re picking third, this gets interesting. With Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell on the roster, they may prefer Ball to Brandon Miller.

Past that, the Spurs may prefer a proven NBA commodity over a prospect. 

They’ll just have to hope the relationship lasts past Ball’s rookie contract.
