Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
This one is simple. The Heat do this trade to rebuild.
It’s probably time they did so. At the same time, the Heat don’t need to rebuild the way the Thunder have. We shouldn’t expect a lengthy tanking process where the Heat trade their best players.
After all, besides Butler, they’re all in the 25 or under club. Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Josh Giddey would be one of the most exciting young cores in the NBA.
Dort is young enough to be part of the rebuild too. This deal makes Miami worse, but it keeps them competitive.

It also nets them three first-round picks and a swap. In all likelihood, they’ll eventually use that draft capital to swing a trade for another, younger star.
Should the Thunder give up so much for Butler?
